Ralph Larmann, SONY EUROPE IMAGING AMBASSADOR

The german performance photographer Ralph Larmann (1963) studied drums with a focus on popular music at the Rotterdam Conservatory. Parallel to playing the drums in bands, he turned to photography and journalism at the end of the 1980s. Since then, Larmann has created countless complex photo documentations of the most diverse productions for renowned artists, bands, festivals and companies worldwide, in order to capture these always temporary events in fascinating images for eternity.

For his 400-page illustrated books STAGE DESIGN and STAGE DESIGN EMOTIONS, he photographed 58 productions from the fields of theatre, opera, musicals, concert tours, TV shows and special events. Each production depicted here is rich in visual detail and photographed from perspectives that are usually not apparent to the audience. Under the title "THE CHARM OF LIVE STAGE DESIGN", a coffee-table book in Chinese was published for the first time in China, Taiwan and Hong Kong in 2012.

In the same year, in collaboration with the Irish band U2 and the author Dylan Jones, he published "FROM THE GROUND UP - U2 360° Tour", the official illustrated book on the fabulous U2 360° WORLD TOUR. This was followed in 2017 by AC/DC's first official illustrated book on their last world tour to date, "ROCK OR BUST".

With the ED SHEERAN "DIVIDE" and U2 "360°" world tour, Larmann photographed the two most successful concert tours of all time as the official photographer.

For many years, Larmann has regularly given lectures and keynotes on his work entitled "The Art of Performance Photography" and the topics of stage and lighting design at renowned universities (Berlin University of Applied Sciences, Vienna University of Technology, Baden-Württemberg University of Popular Music and Music Business and the New Design University St. Pölten) as well as at various companies, congresses and trade fairs. He emphasizes and emotionalizes his lectures with his constantly updated photo documentations as a unique visual tool.

Ralph Larmann has been a SONY European Imaging Ambassador since January 2019 https://www.sony.co.uk/alphauniverse/ambassadors/ralph-larmann.
